Chapter 3 – BOTHERED HEARTS
After one week…
The five friends where eating at a sushi house… Jun spoke first… Zoe, guess what I’ve bought? KAT-TUN’s concert tickets. It’s their concert in Sendai. I got us all tickets. It’s on me so don’t bother to pay. Just come, Okay?”
Zoe almost choked her otooro sushi.. Reluctantly, “hai”
She doesn’t want to go. But she has no reasons to give.
That night, Samantha stayed in her apartment.
“What’s wrong? You’ve been spacing out on us for almost one week now. The others may not notice it but I do”
“Sam, I made a stupid mistake last Friday night make it Saturday morning. I had a one-night stand with an ogre”
“WHAT?! Well, it’s about time you have a sex life. It’s not that I consent you okay. I also do that. I’m just surprise because you never really get close to any boy. Where did happen at a love motel?”
“no, here in my house. In the living room floor to be precise.”
Luckily Sam is lying in the bed or else might have fallen in the chair.
“You invited some guy you don’t know inside your house?! Are you insane?”
“For the record, he’s someone I know, you know him too…Oh, everybody know him. His Akanishi jin, for crying out loud”
Sam was really glad she’s in the bed.
“A-KA-NI-SHI JIN???!!! You’re one lucky girl. It’s everybody’s dream to bed him. And aren’t you dreaming of being inside his warm embrace, kissing insanely?…chotto matte… “ Sam realized something, “that means he’s you first. Don’t you dare deny it “
“Yes he is. I don’t feel lucky at all. I hate him down to the nails on his toes. How dare he say he was so surprised I’m a virgin. How dare him… if I’m a witch I’m gonna voodoo him.”
“ So he thought you’re an easy one, ne. Don’t be mad you have to understand a playboy like him are used to girls throwing themselves to him. Don’t mope around feeling bad about him and yourself also.”
“I’m trying to erase that memory, but tell me, how can I? Every time I walked in my living room I remember that night, do you think I should change apartments?”
“BAKA!!! This has been your home for almost 4 years now. And I think changing place will help you. Try forgetting everything or try finding another man. Now sleep because you look like a zombie.”
Samantha lay awake after sometime she heard the even breathing of her friend. Zoe, the one who always give her moral support, her friend who’s always strong and the only sane person in her group. She’s been so outspoken, frank, a true-blue career woman. Yes, outside she’s a party girl but deep inside she’s someone soft, there’s still a country girl inside her friend. Now, she has a new problem, she planned to surprise Zoe with the new job assignment, Jin. For the first time Akanishi Jin will be featured in their magazine, for the promo of “Speed Racer”. And of course Zoe is the one responsible for the photos. She only confirmed the schedule this afternoon because the idol was busy with concert preparations. And the shoot will be in her friend’s studio at their office. It would mean closed room. And to add to the problem Jun will not be available that time to do the interview. So she was supposed to ask her friend to conduct the interview as well.
“Ohayou!” Sam greeted her friend who was sipping coffee in her apartment’s veranda.
“Ohayou, help yourself with some coffee and toast”
“Have good night sleep? Hmm.. coffee is so nice early in the morning”
“hai, ano sa, Sam I resolve myself to move on and forget my misery”
“Really? Can you give Jin a straight-face when you bumped into him suddenly?”
“I promise. I think there are lot of chances for that to happen because of the places we often went to” Zoe crossed her fingers.
“Hmm… Zoe, I have something to tell you. I’ll tell you now. It’s about work but it’s better to tell you here so others won’t hear your complaints.”
“What is it?”
“2 days from now you’ll be having a photo shoot with Akanishi Jin, it will be added to the July issue. I just confirmed the schedule yesterday”
“Wait, Jun isn’t around that time, don’t tell me??? SAM!!”
“Yes, you’ll be both the photographer and interviewer they agreed to a 2-hour shoot. I think it’s long enough to finish both the photo shoot and interview.”
“I’m dead.”
“Put it on the bright side you’ll be able to test yourself if you’ve really resolved his case”
Dreading this day, Zoe gets her camera ready. Glancing around the studio to see that the setting was perfect. Why does she have the photo shoot this late when almost everybody have gone home already? Sam and Shou were in the other room editing some articles, Mika has gone home and Jun was on vacation. She’s alone in the studio waiting. The make-up artist is on the make-up room waiting for the idol she’s going to groom.
Her cell phone rang. The number is not registered in her phone memory.
“Moshi-moshi”
“Zoe-chan, Jin desu. We’ll be there in 5 minutes.”

“Oh great, who’s the traitor who gave my number?” she mused.
True to his word, Akanishi Jin walked in the room with his manager Hiro-san behind.
“Gomen for the delay” his manager apologized.
“It’s okay we just finished setting up the studio. Fuji-kun, please do Akanishi-san’s make up.”
“hai”
“Akanishi-san, please stare at the camera like you’re inviting it for a date”
“Can I invite you for a dinner?”
“You don’t need to speak”
“Please speak with your eyes. Hold the hat just below your chin, okay that’s good.”
“Don’t you think it’s weird that I’m talking to the camera when I can talked with the person behind the camera?”
“Well, then if it’s easier on you then do as you please” Zoe can’t help but blushed. Her heart is beating so fast. She’s praying that it will be over soon.
“yosh! We’re done!”
Interview…
“How do you feel doing the voice over for Emile Hirsch?’
“It’s an honor of course because not everyone is asked to do dubbing specially for the lead character. And the film was made by the makers of Matrix”
The interview goes on without problem. They we’re able to finish everything in less than 2 hours.
Zoe presented Jin with a basket of fresh fruits and also his manager.
“Thank you for taking time to do the interview and I hope we can work again the future”
“You’re welcome. I also wish I can work with you”
“We will be sending you a copy of the magazine”
“I’ll be looking forward to it, and see how do I look when I seduce the lady behind the camera.”
“I’ll walk you to the elevator.”
“Ano, Hiro-san, can you wait for me in the car. I still want to have a chat with Zoe-chan, I heard from Pi that English is her native tongue.”
“Okay, I’ll wait for you downstairs” The manager said before riding the elevator.
“What is there to talk about?” Zoe confronted the man in front of her.
“Well, I’ve been suppressing the urge to confront you after what happen the last time we’re together”
“I already told you I don’t want to talk about it anymore. What’s been done has been done. You can’t change what happen and we can never go back to the past. I’ve moved on.” Zoe stressed her thoughts firmly.
“I can’t stop thinking about it. And honestly, I don’t regret what we shared that night. Yes, I’m used to taking girls and have sex without strings attached. But you’re not like them. It never crossed my mind that you’re a cheap girl.”
“And what more is that we never used protection what if I get you pregnant!” Jin continued his speech, “I’m worried you know because I can’t help but care.”
“Are you done? Let me clear things, I’m sure I was not impregnated it happen only once. If ever I’m pregnant I won’t held you responsible. It’s caused by my irresponsibility. And that night I didn’t regret it. We just fulfill what we want. There’s nothing more to it. I’m touched by your caring thank you. I didn’t expect anything more than that. I just hope you’ll respect my wish. Can you go now? Your manager is waiting for you.”
“Okay fine if that’s what you want. I just want to tell what I feel about our situation.”
“Good bye, Akanishi-san” with that she turn her back. She doesn’t want him to see the sadness she felt. The moment he walked in the elevator, a part of her leave with him. She prays that she can really move on.
Jin meets his manager in the lobby.
“Let’s go”
“The car is waiting already”
He grimly gets in the car. He’s really fuming deep inside. He can’t understand himself, why does he feel so guilty about what that unforgettable one-night. That night he was so happy, it’s more than just sex. There’s something more about it. “Ugh, WTF”.
He decided to put his inner struggle aside. There many things to do with the coming nationwide concert plus there is also Speed Racer.
“How did the shoot go?” Sam inquired as Zoe entered the editor’s office.
“It went without hitch.” She answered uninterested. She doesn’t want to talk about it, especially, the confrontation that happened after.
“Sam, can I go home now? I’ll just organized the interview at home and also develop the photos at home. I feel so tired already.”
“Sure, go ahead… I’ll be going home a little bit later. And please take a day-off tomorrow. You don’t have schedule so just rest. Are going to drive your car or take a taxi?”
“I’m driving the car and stopped by the drive thru for food. Thank you for the day-off I’ll plan to spend it developing the photos I took today.”
“Jaa ne. Be careful on you driving, don’t drive too fast ne”
Zoe has always enjoyed driving. It’s her way to relax after a hectic day. She always drives with Sam in tow just driving around without particular destination. Now, she felt the need for speed and the serenity of the ocean. She decided to go to the beach to find peace. Her mind is in complete chaos as well as her heart.
After dropping by McDonalds she continue driving until she reached the sea. There are few people there, couples cuddling together. She went out the car and sat on the sand not even bothering to put some blanket. She listened to the waves splashing in the shore. It’s so peaceful but why does the situation break her heart? She wanted to cry out loud. She got up and get inside the car there she cried her heart out.
After the heartbreaking situation she calmed herself and drive back home.
“I have to be strong. It’s not like it’s the end of the world. Let Jin be angry with me at least that would make him stay away.’
